Frequently Asked Questions

Feelmo isn't an app that tries to "guess your emotions." It's a gentle companion that watches over the balance of your autonomic nervous system — the part Apple Watch can see — a little each day. Its principle is that we don't judge feelings as good or bad; we simply watch over how settled you are. This page answers the questions we hear most often, from buying and setting up the app all the way to "how to read your score."

Before you begin

Feelmo is not a medical device. It isn't meant for diagnosis, treatment, or medical decisions — it's a wellbeing app for observing and recording the balance of your autonomic nervous system. If you have symptoms that concern you, please consult a medical professional.

Purchases and Restoring

How do I get started with a purchase?

On the Premium screen inside the app, you can choose a yearly, monthly, or weekly plan and purchase it. Payment is handled through your Apple ID (the App Store). When you tap a locked feature — such as long-term trends, the yearly sleep view, or a past-day look-back — this purchase screen (the Paywall) opens automatically.

Is there a free trial?

Eligible plans may include a free trial (eligibility and length are shown on the purchase screen). If you cancel during the trial period, you won't be charged. It's perfectly fine to use the free version for a while first, and then consider Premium once your baseline has had time to grow.

How do I cancel?

You cancel from Apple's settings. Go to "Settings" → your name (Apple ID) → "Subscriptions" → "Feelmo" → "Cancel Subscription." Even after you cancel, your Premium features stay available until the end of the period.

Will I be charged if I cancel during the free period?

No. As long as you cancel at least 24 hours before the free trial ends, you won't be billed.

How do I carry over my purchase after changing devices or reinstalling?

As long as you use the same Apple ID, you can restore your purchase. Open the Premium screen and tap "Restore" in the top right, or "Already purchased?" at the bottom. If it doesn't show up, please check that the Apple ID you're signed in with on the App Store is the same one you used for the purchase.

Can I get a refund?

Refunds for purchases are handled by Apple. Open reportaproblem.apple.com, or go to your purchase history in the App Store and choose "Report a Problem" to start the process.

After I cancel, do I lose access to Premium right away?

No. Even after you cancel, you can keep using Premium features until the end of the period you've already paid for. Canceling turns off auto-renewal (this is the "canceled" state), and once the period ends, you're automatically moved back to the free plan. You can re-subscribe to Premium anytime you like.

Can I use Feelmo for free?

Yes. You can download it for free and start right away. Even with the free version, the everyday experience at the heart of the app is all there.

  • Today's Balance score and your state right now
  • The faces of the six companions (Energetic, Calm, Neutral, Anxious, Overload, Tired) that translate your balance
  • The basic breathing exercises (calm down / lift up)
  • Today's habits (sunlight, steps, respiratory rate, sleep)
  • The weekly, monthly, and yearly look-backs for mood logs (all free), plus the weekly view for wellbeing and sleep/sunlight

For the features unlocked by Feelmo Premium — including deeper analysis and long-term trends — see the next question, "What more do I get with Feelmo Premium?"

What more do I get with Feelmo Premium?

Feelmo Premium is the expansion for when you want to read not just "today's single snapshot," but "you as a timeline." It mainly unlocks the following.

  • Long-term trends — the flow of your balance over weeks to months
  • Which habits help you — the habit-impact analysis inside the Kokoro Report's "This week's insight," comparing "does this habit actually work for you?" individually
  • Kokoro Report — a look-back that brings your balance together in one place, exportable as an A4, 3-page clinical-style PDF you can hand to your doctor
  • Tomorrow's condition forecast (with your weekday tendency calendar inside it) and your autonomic trajectory
  • Habit look-back (browsing past days beyond today and yesterday)
  • The detailed yearly (last 12 months) sleep view (weekly and monthly are free). For sunlight, steps, and respiratory rate, there are no monthly/yearly views — what's Premium is looking back at days before yesterday (today and this week are free)

The range you can use for free is described in the previous question. When you tap a locked view — long-term trends, the yearly sleep view, a past-day look-back, and so on — the purchase screen (the Paywall) opens.

What is the Balance score?

The Balance score is a measure from 0 to 100, calculated from the HRV (heart rate variability / the fluctuations in your R-R intervals) that your Apple Watch records. It summarizes multiple HRV-derived clues, measurement quality, and movement from your own baseline. The exact internal recipe is not public.

The key to reading it is to look at "the difference from your own baseline."

  • A low morning — a sign that you're a little unsettled right now. It isn't proof that something is wrong; it's a hint to take it gently.
  • A high morning — a sign that you're relatively well-balanced.

Please don't compare with others

The Balance score isn't a number for competing over who scores higher or lower than someone else. What matters is the comparison with your own usual range. Rather than the score itself, Feelmo translates the day's balance into the faces of the six companions and sets them beside you as gentle words of observation (never as a verdict). For more, see How to Read Your Balance.

Do I need an Apple Watch?

Reading your Balance score uses an Apple Watch. It reads HRV, heart rate, sleep, and more on the device itself and calculates from there.

Because wrist measurement is sensitive to body movement, it's most stable during a seated on-demand measurement or while you sleep. Your mood log's Balance and mood are set automatically from this Apple Watch's data. That said, some features — such as breathing exercises and reviewing your accumulated records or adding memos — can be used with iPhone alone.

How does Feelmo tell which habits help me?

"Do breathing exercises really work for me?" — the habit-impact analysis (Which habits help you) answers that question with your own data, not with generalities. It compares your days with a habit against your days without, individually, to see whether your balance actually moved. You'll find it inside the Kokoro Report (Trend tab), under "This week's insight" → the habit that helped most. It's for seeing the effect for you, rather than someone else's average (Premium). See Which habits help you.

Is it a medical device?

No. Feelmo is not a medical device, and it isn't for diagnosis or treatment decisions. It's a wellbeing app for observing and recording the balance of your autonomic nervous system. The vital signs lined up on the home screen (HRV, resting heart rate, sleep) are also there to be viewed as daily signs — not as a diagnosis.

Where is my data stored?

HRV-derived data, your Balance score, mood logs, and your behavior tags and wellbeing records are, as a rule, stored on the device itself, with no automatic upload. You can delete your data at any time. We also don't sell it to third parties. For more, see Data and Privacy.

Can I carry my data over when I change devices?

Feelmo's records (mood logs, sleep, breathing, and the baseline it has learned) are stored only on the device itself and are not saved to iCloud (in keeping with Apple's privacy approach, health-related data stays inside the device). For that reason, these records can't be carried over to a new device as-is. What's exchanged between devices via iCloud Sync in Settings is only your "settings," such as notifications and display preferences.

That said, the underlying data — HRV, sleep, and so on — is accumulated in Apple's "Health" app, so if you carry over Health when changing devices, Feelmo will read from there again on the new device and resume its calculations. Your baseline will grow again, fresh, on the new device.

Which languages are supported?

The app supports 11 languages (Japanese, English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), Thai, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese). The website feelmo.jp is available in 5 languages.

My Balance score still hasn't appeared by morning

The Balance score is calculated from the data of a night you slept wearing your Apple Watch. It "grows" slowly, like this.

  1. Wait for the sync — after you wake up, it can take a few dozen minutes for your Watch and iPhone to sync.
  2. Building your baseline — if you're new, it stays on "Learning" and spends about 14 nights building your baseline.

The display being unstable for a few days isn't a malfunction — it's simply in the middle of gathering your baseline. For more, see Until Your Balance Grows and On Mornings When Your Balance Doesn't Arrive.

Sleep analysis says "Couldn't read the data"

There are two likely causes: (1) sleep hasn't been recorded yet, or (2) Health reading is off. Please check that "Sleep" is turned on under Health app → "Sharing" → "Apps and Services" → Feelmo (you can also open this from the diagnostic card inside the app). For sleep details, the weekly and monthly views are free, and the yearly (12-month) view is Premium.

"Today's Sunlight" is always 0 minutes

"Time in daylight" is recorded on the Apple Watch side, and it syncs to your iPhone only a few times a day. Even if it shows 0 during the day, it may be reflected in the evening or at night. An Apple Watch running watchOS 10 or later is required. For sunlight details, today and this week are free, and looking back at days before yesterday is Premium (there are no monthly/yearly summary views).

Steps or mindful minutes aren't showing

Just as with sleep, please check that the relevant item is turned on in your Health sharing settings. Note that Feelmo's breathing sessions are automatically added to your mindful minutes. For these habits (sunlight, steps, and respiratory rate), today's and yesterday's records are free, and looking further back is Premium (there are no monthly/yearly summary views for them; sleep is separate — its weekly and monthly views are free and only the yearly view is Premium).

It says "Measurement a little unstable"

Most of the time it's the band, not your body. Because wrist HRV measurement is easily affected by movement, wearing it a little snug and above the wrist bone while you sleep tends to make it more stable. When you want to measure properly during the day, we recommend an on-demand measurement in a seated posture.

What is a minus like "−7.6 pt the morning after a sunlight day"?

It's the difference between the average of the mornings after "days with" and the mornings after "days without." Even if it's a minus, it doesn't necessarily mean the habit is bad — it's often another factor that happened to fall on the same day, such as going outside more on busy days. This is an example of "correlation, not causation." When you want to tease apart "does it really work for you," the habit-impact analysis — Which habits help you (Premium), in the Kokoro Report's "This week's insight" — can help. For more, see "Correlation, not causation" in Wellbeing and habits.

Is a higher Balance score better?

It isn't a contest of scores. What matters is the comparison with "your usual range." A low morning isn't proof that something is wrong; it's a hint to take it gently. Rather than chasing the score itself, a comfortable distance is to simply glance at the faces of the six companions each day. For more, see How to Read Your Balance.

My HRV changes a lot from day to day. Is that abnormal?

It's actually normal. HRV moves a lot with the day's fatigue, alcohol, temperature, and so on. Rather than feeling up or down over a single day's value, look at the flow over several weeks (the long-term trends in Premium can help).

Some months have no crown even though it's my best month

The best month is chosen from months with 5 or more nights of records. This is so we don't call a single lucky night a "best."

I'm not getting notifications / I want fewer

On by default are the morning Balance note (once a day), the daily reminder, the weekly report, and awareness alerts; the bedtime reminder, habit nudges, and the pressure heads-up (Premium) start off (opt-in). You can toggle them individually from the gear (Settings) icon in the top right of each screen. For more, see Notifications and Reminders.

I can't hear the heartbeat sound during breathing

The heartbeat sound is opt-in. Turn it on with the heartbeat chip on the session screen. Please also check your iPhone's silent switch.

The widget stays out of date

The Balance-score widget shows your Balance score and the current companion together, and refreshes automatically whenever Feelmo recalculates your Balance score — at the morning's first launch, during an overnight background pass, or from an in-app measurement. There's no manual "record" step, and choosing a different mood later or adding a memo doesn't change the widget. For more, see Watching Over with Widgets.

I want to look back at a past day / add a memo

From the calendar in Wellbeing or "Mood logs," you can go back and look at past days. Tapping a mood-log entry lets you add or edit its optional memo — the mood and Balance score are determined automatically from that night's HRV, heart rate, and sleep, so they can't be re-picked or rewritten. The Mood Log's weekly, monthly, and yearly look-backs are all free (adding a memo to a past day is free too).
